While trolling the interent the other day, I stumbled upon a 8 or 9 year old Indian girl playing these two drums and absolutely blew my mind away. Upon further research, I found that she was playing what is called the Indian Tabla Drum and it is not your basic drum. When most people think about drumming, many feel it is something that anyone can do and is nothing more than “banging on stuff”. Hopefully after seeing someone play the Tabla they will realize how sorely mistaken the are. There are seven different tones that can be produced and those seven are combined into hundreds of different rythms which all have names and can stumble even the most advanced drummer. Some of my non-drumming friends joke that a drummer is nothing without a band, but when you’re playing the Tabla, what more do you need?
