Remember to never use wax on a surface finish when cleaning wood flooring. If you notice the problem too late and the stain has gone deeper, you may have to replace the board.

To deal with minor scratches, just rewax if it’s a wax finish floor and buff..For surface finishes, use a touch-up kit made for surface finished floors. You’ll find these kits at most of the specialized shops. It will have hardwood floor cleaner too. Food stains and chunks need to be blotted lightly with a damp but well wrung out cloth, then scrapped off carefully without damaging the surface. Plastic tools do a better job in this case.

Some of the oils or petrochemical products like greases could prove to be highly dangerous for wax floor if left unattended for long. Use home varnish cleaning for this. In case of a floor with a wax finish, soak up the material thoroughly and clean the spot with a clean dry sponge before finally wiping off the residue with a clan cloth. Sometimes it may be necessary to do it twice or even more.Use mineral spirits and trisodium phosphate (if you have) on a soft cloth to rub the area gently until the problem disappears.
