It’s time to to stop dreaming about it… get the stuff, practice… get out there and do it. If there’s one thing America enjoys the most, being entertained is at the top of the list. Whether it’s a local club, bar, a party or wedding, people like to have something there that’s going to keep the event lively and amusing. As far as the bar and club scene go, the longer people stay, the more money is made. If you were the reason the customers were being entertained and you brought a larger crowd in, how much money do you think you could make, week after week, doing something you love?

It’s time to show the world that you were born to be a DJ. To get started, you’re going to have to invest a little in some equipment. For starters, get yourself a nice pair of cheap DJ headphones. They’re designed so the actually headphone speakers flip 180 degrees. This way you can have one headphone speaker on and the other open so you can hear your surroundings. Next is he big purchase, you’re going to need a DJ mixing station. Numark designs some really nice ones and are not overly expensive. Your mixing stations is going to be the center of your attention. There are also mixing stations that have built-in iPod docks. To project your sound over your audience, you’re definitely going to need a decent amplifier and some nice, cheap PA speakers that play loud. This will simply allow you to use your iPod as your mass storage collection for your music. These are just a few things you’ll need to start off with.

Dr.Dre, who discovered Eminem, this guy got himself some equipment and he played all the time, non stop. When he was young, instead of playing video games for hours on end, he DJ’ed to himself in his room for hours on a daily basis. Instead of being able to brag about beating whatever video game he was playing, he was literally “beating” his own tunes. The point is, if you want to do something, do it. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t and always keep yourself surrounded with positive people.

Create your self a nickname. Something Unique. Try not to stress out about it though. Even the most ridiculous name that was even thought to be boring at first, can eventually become famous. People are not big into the name, they just want to see the talent. As long as YOU like your name, you could call yourself, DJ Whatever, and the name will go famous or popular when you’re popular.

Once you have what you need, practice practice practice. Being a professional DJ is just like doing anything for the first time, you become better over time. After several weeks or a month or two of competitive practice, you’ll have enough confidence to get out there and promote yourself. If you’re starting out at a younger age, tell your friends you’d be more than happy to entertain at local party for them.

Buying DJ equipment does not have to be like buying a car. In other words, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars. Remember, most people starting something new work their way up as they become more and more successful. Then maybe they’ll start spending thousands of dollars on their new gear.
